Creating a Concierge Desk for One of London’s Most Anticipated Hotel Openings

Studio 1718 was commissioned to manufacture and install a bespoke concierge desk for Six Senses London, located within The Whiteley redevelopment in Bayswater.

As one of the most anticipated luxury hospitality openings in London, the project demanded exceptional attention to detail throughout every aspect of the interior. The concierge desk forms part of the guest arrival experience and was required to sit comfortably within an environment where architecture, interiors and service have been carefully considered.

The challenge was not simply to create a beautiful piece of furniture. The desk needed to feel as though it belonged within the building while providing a practical and durable workspace capable of supporting daily hotel operations.

Balancing Design Intent and Functionality

In hospitality environments, furniture must do more than look good.

The concierge desk is a working piece of furniture used continuously throughout the day. Every detail therefore needed to contribute both aesthetically and functionally.

The form was developed with carefully controlled proportions, soft geometry and refined detailing to ensure the desk sat naturally within the surrounding interior. Curved ends, panelled surfaces and carefully considered mouldings create a sense of permanence and familiarity, allowing the piece to complement the architecture rather than compete with it.

At the same time, the desk was designed to support the practical requirements of the concierge team, providing an efficient workspace while maintaining the refined appearance expected within a luxury hospitality setting.

Craftsmanship and Manufacture

The desk was crafted at Studio 1718’s workshop in Scotland using traditional cabinet-making techniques combined with modern manufacturing processes.

Particular care was taken throughout manufacture to ensure consistency across curved components, panel details and finished surfaces. As with all hospitality furniture, durability was a key consideration, with materials and finishes selected to withstand the demands of continuous daily use.

Before leaving the workshop, the desk was fully assembled and inspected to ensure alignment, fit and finish met the required standard. This process allowed the installation team to arrive on site confident that every element had been checked and approved prior to delivery.

Installation at Six Senses London

Successful hospitality projects rely on careful planning and coordination as much as craftsmanship.

The completed desk was transported to London and installed as part of the final stages of the hotel’s opening programme. Close coordination ensured the piece integrated seamlessly within the completed interior and was ready to support operations from day one.

Today, the concierge desk forms part of the guest arrival experience at Six Senses London, contributing to a hospitality environment where design, craftsmanship and functionality work together.

Outcome

Studio 1718 was proud to contribute to a landmark hospitality project that demanded the highest standards of quality and execution.

The completed concierge desk demonstrates how carefully considered furniture can support both guest experience and daily operations, while remaining true to the wider architectural vision of the project.
